Digital radiology is used to view images of bone, joints and occasionally soft tissue and is an extremely useful tool for diagnosing and treating lameness. Follow this link to learn more about digital radiology.

Digital Radiology units, one for use on the farm one for use in the hospital. Digital radiology is used to view images of bone, joints and occasionally soft tissue. The ability to see current and previous bone and joint injuries makes it an invaluable tool in both lameness evaluations and pre-purchase exams. Digital radiographs provide a much higher degree of detail and clarity than traditional x-rays. The images are processed instantaneously and can be viewed and manipulated by our doctors stall-side. This allows our doctors to reach an immediate diagnosis, so we can get your equine friend on the road to recovery.

Digital Ultrasound: With our ultrasound therapy we can send images and video clips of your horses exam. Our system has the ability to take 3D images to better access the extent of tendon damage. We can take a “panoramic view” of the entire fore or hind limb from the carpus and hock down. This allows us to give you a continuous image as opposed to bits and pieces that often accompany examinations. We feel that documentation allows for better case follow ups to determine and monitor therapy choices. The documentation also allows for an exceptional added value for prepurchase examinations.

Lameness Evaluations: Lameness is traditionally defined as any alteration of the horse’s gait. Most lamenesses typically stem from an issue with the musculoskeletal system (muscles, tendon, bones, ligaments, or joints). Our job as your veterinarian is to identify the source of your horse’s lameness and work with you to determine an appropriate, effective course of treatment. An accurate diagnosis is the key to successful treatment of lameness. To do this we take into consideration your horse’s history, an evaluation of the horse at rest and in motion (this can include under saddle, doing his intended job), perform a thorough hands-on exam, application of hoof testers and joint flexion tests.

Diagnostics procedures allow us to isolate the specific location and cause of lameness. These include: diagnostic nerve and joint blocks, digital radiology and digital ultrasound. Potential treatments can include chiropractic, IRAP therapy, joint injections, PRP, stem cell therapy, rehabilitation programs, shockwave therapy, Noltrex, and arthroscopy. With our advanced technology and equine lameness expertise, we look forward to getting your horse healthy and sound.
